Skinner Releasing Technique

Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) is a training method in which certified teachers employ imagery, voice and music as stimuli for unstructured, improvised movements in their students.[1] SRT is a commercial system for which U.S. trademark status was filed on March 13, 1980.[2] It is designed for and used primarily in physical therapy, and to a lesser extent in dance.[1] Although SRT is sometimes compared to classical dance techniques, it differs significantly from conventional dance techniques such as turnout and spotting, in which body form and movement are rigorously specified and external stimulus is not a factor. SRT was invented by Joan Skinner, a Professor Emeritus at University of Washington.[3]
